A Great Las Vegas Restaurant for Steak- Austins

If you’re looking for a great Las Vegas restaurant for steak and just aren’t in the mood to tackle The Strip, go to Austins Steakhouse at Texas Station Gambling Hall & Hotel.

Review Update:

I hate to do this but, I’ve been back to Austins several times since this article was written and I am sad to say that the quality of the food has changed for the worse. The Texas Station has been struggling for the past few years and I don’t know if they are cutting corners by changing the quality of the product they buy or what, but it was very disappointing the last few visits. Spend the extra $$ and go to Vic & Anthony’s Steakhouse Downtown for outstanding steaks that are consistently great.

Austins Steakhouse

We’ve been dining at Austins Steakhouse almost as long as we’ve been living in Las Vegas, about 15 years. It’s in Texas Station which is easy to get to for locals and tourists alike. Don’t make any assumptions. If you’re picturing a cowboy theme steakhouse with saddles for chairs, ropes, and branding irons, you couldn’t be more mistaken. (You will find that at Gilley’s in Treasure Island). The dining room is warm and cozy. White linen table cloths, candle light, and high-back chairs give an understated richness to the room. The semi-circular booths with extra high backs are best for a romantic dinner. The service has always been attentive and professional in our experiences at Austins.

Classic Starters

Fresh Oysters on the Half Shell never disappoint and you can’t go wrong with a classic Caesar Salad. Shrimp Cocktail, Lump Crab Cocktail, or the Tuna Poke are all good choices. I love the Tomato and Mozzarella Salad. It’s the standard I compare all the others to. Most rarely measure up. The cheese is just so fresh and the tomatoes and fresh basil are delicious. I also think they have the best presentation of this dish. It’s Napoleon style. The tomatoes are layered with fresh basil and slices of soft moist mozzarella, finished with some balsamic vinegar. Oooh. It’s sooo good. I hate the selection of bread……because its so good I can’t stop eating it! Don’t try and take it away either, you could lose a finger.

Prime Steaks

You can count on delicious prime quality steaks at Austins for a reasonable, make that a very reasonable price. My favorite cut of beef is the New York. Very flavorful. I enjoy the Filet Mignon but like to add one of Austins excellent sauces with it. The Peppercorn is my choice but there is also a classic Bearnaise, Red Wine or  Bleu Cheese sauce to choose from. They do a Baked Yam with butter and brown sugar that is amazing and the sauteed spinach is a wonderful side dish too.

Attention Winos!

Austins may not have the largest selection of wines but they do have THE BEST PRICES BY THE GLASS OR BOTTLE that I have come across in a Las Vegas restaurant. They had Faust Cabernet by the glass for only $17 a glass and they give a very generous pour. The last wine list I looked at had Faust listed for $145 a bottle. Most Las Vegas restaurants charge 3-4 times the retail price for a bottle of wine. At Austins they only make maybe $10- $20 on a bottle of wine. It’s nuts…….and I’m a hungry squirrel.

Deals

Seriously, there are so many deals to be had at Las Vegas restaurants, and Austins is no exception, I wish I was two people so I could take advantage of each and every one of them. Austins regular menu is already moderately priced but they’ve sweetened the deal. Currently Austins is doing a $19.95 Steak and Lobster Tail. It’s a 4oz tail and a sirloin. Crazy. Deals change all the time. Get it while it lasts.
