Dining in Las Vegas – A Taste of New York

When dining in Las Vegas I sometimes find myself yearning for a taste of New York and when that happens I make tracks to the Bagel Cafe. I’m a former New Yorker and there’s nobody on earth that appreciates a good delicatessen more than a New Yorker. You know what I’m sayin?

The Bagel Cafe

The Bagel Cafe

There’s no fancy schmancy here. Just lots of good food in simple surroundings. Eat in or order take out from the deli counter. The Bagel Cafe has been in Las Vegas for quite some time and is still my favorite place to get really good deli like I was used to in New York. Their bagels are made fresh every day in the traditional way; boiled then baked. With over 20 different varieties it’s tough to decide. Personally I’m partial to the Super Egg Bagel.  I love the jumbo sized overstuffed meat sandwiches. You absolutely must have either the Corned Beef or Pastrami (or a half & half) on homemade marble rye with a half-sour pickle; there’s none better. The cole slaw is delish, the potato salad…eh.

Jewish Soul Food

Feeling a little under the weather…..order a homemade soup; Chicken Noodle or the Matzoh Ball. The Bagel Cafe has Knishes, Bagels, assorted homemade Whipped Cream Cheeses, Stuffed Cabbage, Pickled Herring, Potato Pancakes, Chopped Liver, Nova and assorted Smoked Fish. Oy Vegas!!

New York Style

If it’s not a big sandwich, it’s not a New York sandwich. The sandwiches at The Bagel Cafe are monsters. Half a pound of meat on a sandwich. It’s enough to make two! They’ve also got Dr. Browns sodas…..another taste of home or maybe you’d prefer an Egg Cream. Can you believe it? You can get an Egg Cream in Vegas?! If you’re having a snack attack they also have WISE POTATO CHIPS and CHEESE DOODLES!!

There’s an awesome selection of salads and meats in the deli case. Plenty of cheeses and spreads are on hand as well. The temptation doesn’t stop there. Fresh baked desserts are on display that’ll make your eyes widen and your mouth water. The infamous Black & White Cookie (remember that Seinfeld episode?), a variety of Ruglah, the best Chocolate Cigars I’ve ever had, Eclairs, Napoleons, Turnovers, Strudels, Cheese Cake, Short Cake and lots more. They also do catering, so have a party.

Take it from me, a former New Yorker, The Bagel Cafe is a little bit of New York heaven in Las Vegas. Enjoy!
