Las Vegas Airport – McCarran

The Las Vegas Airport; McCarran International has been undergoing some pretty dramatic changes over the past year. It’s had a $2.4 billion addition.

Terminal 3

courtesy of travelweekly.commuch-anticipated upgrade is finally complete and has added a 1.9 million square feet of brand spanking new terminal to the always busy McCarran International Airport.

The new Terminal 3 aka T3 is expected to be fully operational by June 27, 2012 and is replacing Terminal 2. The new addition has added another 14 gates to our Las Vegas Airport. Seven will be for domestic carriers and seven for international flights. One of the upgraded features at the state-of-the-art T3 will be jet bridges that allow both front and rear boarding on wide-body jets which will speed up boarding times.

Terminal 3 has several new restaurants, retail shops and a duty-free shop and express spa. Of course travelers will still be able to make that last-minute run for a slot machine before they head home. Hey, it’s Vegas you’ve just got to have some slot machines around.

The addition of Terminal 3 is going to make travel for our domestic and foreign guests a much better experience over all.  It’ll help ease the congestion during peak times by dividing the traffic between Terminal 1 and T3. The roadways into McCarran are also designed to make entry to the terminals smoother. There will be a dedicated route that leads only to T3 and anything that helps make the traveling process less stressful for visitors is always welcome. Taxi service will be another area of improvement. T3 will have its own taxi stand which will make pick-ups much more efficient.

Update:

Since the writing of this article I recently had the pleasure of using T3 personally and wanted to update you with our experience. It was wonderful. In fact it was so stress free I kept asking my husband, “Are you sure this McCarran Airport?” No long lines, and we were there at peak rush hour in the morning, easy parking and plenty of airport employees to help us navigate the high-tech checkin process. Well done!!
