When you live in a vacation destination it’s a lot of fun to do a stay-cation and we recently got a great deal at the beautiful Red Rock Casino Resort Spa for a two night stay and had a fantastic time. The Red Rock is about a 20 minute drive west of the Strip and is what I would call a local hotel casino because of its distance from the Strip. They offer a FREE SHUTTLE to and from the Strip.

The Staff
We’ve been to the Red Rock many times to dine or for fun, but have never stayed in one of the rooms before and were blown away at how nice everything was. We entered at the valet for hotel guests where the car attendants were friendly and helpful. The car valets told us to call from our room if we were going out and they would have the car waiting for us. Nice touch. Our check-in was smooth and swift. On the way to our room, every employee we passed smiled and greeted us. Being in the hospitality industry ourselves we know that’s not by chance. It’s because someone took the time and a lot of energy to instill in their employees how important it is to make a good impression on their guests. Great job!
The Room
The room itself was very nice with a King size bed and contemporary decor and a nice view of the pool area. It had all the perks you expect; flat screen TV, WIFI, stocked fridge (if you take anything it’ll be on your bill) make-up mirror with light, blow dryer, double vanity, bath scale, bath robes, iron & ironing board, deep roman style tub, marble tile and vanity, separate shower and separate toilet closet. It also had some things we
didn’t expect; morning news paper delivered to your door, nightly turn down service with a sweet treat on the pillow, flat screen TV by the tub, Bose clock radio Ipod dock and CD player. And just in case you needed a little mood music there was a “house” CD for your convenience. Nice touch. Another interesting point to mention is the layout of the floors. The hallway like the building is slightly curved and seems to go on FOREVER. If you have issues with walking or you’re just a little lazy (like me), be sure to ask for a room near the elevators. The great thing about the floor layout is that except for a few rooms, which I’m pretty sure are suites, they are all set back off the hallway in a mini corridor. It’s great because you don’t hear any noise from guests going to and from their rooms. Very little noise is a big bonus in Vegas where people are coming and going 24/7.
The Pool or Tushies & Tans
The pool at Red Rock Casino Resort Spa is just plain gorgeous. It’s several small pools with one very large main circular shaped pool in the center surrounded by plenty of lounge chairs, some in the shallow water on the edge of the pool and palm trees. There are also plenty of cabanas available if you want to go first class. The cocktail waitresses had on the tiniest bottoms that scrunched up their butt almost like a thong. Luckily they were are all cutie booties. The cocktail service by the girls was slow at best, but you can always just go to the pool bar and get the drink yourself. Lots of fruity summer specialty drinks are on the cocktail menu and the food selection poolside was good as well. I went with a Mango Mojito and the hubbie had a (don’t tell) Mudslide.
Dining
There are over 10 dining options at the Red Rock Hotel. We had breakfast at the Grand Cafe. Oatmeal with dried bing cherries, chopped walnuts and maple syrup with a side of fresh fruit for me that was hot fresh and tasty. Sausage, eggs, toast and hash-browns was my husbands hearty and well prepared choice. Although I didn’t have it during this stay I do recommend one of the house breakfast specialties; a brulee
french toast….yum. We also dined at the buffet for breakfast on our last day and it was very good and a real bargain, especially for players card holders. ALWAYS get a players card no matter where you game in Las Vegas; they’re free and can get you many discounts.
For lunch we tried the Yard House. If beer is your beverage you’re in for trouble……..trouble deciding what beer to have. The Yard House has 130 beers on tap! Friendly, laid back and casual with a sports bar vibe, plenty of TV’s and delicious menu selections. We had the mouth watering Penne with Chicken; crimini mushrooms, asparagus and sun-dried tomatoes in marsala cream sauce, dusted with parmesan cheese, and the tangy and flavorful BBQ Chicken Salad; avocado, pasilla, corn, cheddar, jack, tortilla strips, tomato, pinto beans, citrus bbq, fried onions, cilantro & chipotle ranch! Whew. That’s some awesome salad.
Our restaurant choice for dinner was Terra Rossa; we were in the mood for some Italian cuisine. It’s a little pricey, but very good. I started with the Melon and Prosciutto. The portion was huge and the prosciutto was super thin, tender and not overly salty; excellent. My husband had the Pasta e Fagioli soup. It was rich, thick, almost like a stew with very good flavor. For the main course I had the Salmone Rustico; grilled salmon with sauteed rapini in Tuscan olive oil. Not a complex dish, but generous in size and cooked perfectly. I really enjoyed it. The husband went with Chicken Marsala. Veal Marsala is what is offered on the menu, but he prefers chicken over veal and the staff at Terra Rossa were very accommodating. The chicken was tender and the Marsala sauce was just slightly sweet with just the right amount of sliced mushrooms. Very good. For dessert we selected Cannolis with pistachios and Fresh Berries with Amaretto Zabaglione Sauce. I loved the Fresh Berries with Zabaglione. The Cannolis were excellent in my opinion because they were not very sweet. My husband didn’t care for them. He felt they had too much pistachio and not enough sugar. He prefers the more traditional sweeter style. Hey, you can’t please everyone. Service at Terra Rossa was first rate.
Gaming and Entertainment
There is literally every gaming option you could possibly want at the Red Rock including one of the best Sports Books in town, Poker, Bingo, Craps (including an automated version that’s perfect for a beginner), Roulette, etc.
If you’re not a gambler the Red Rock Casino Resort Spa has many non-gaming activities to keep you busy. They have an outstanding Bowling Alley, Movie Theater and Arcade. There’s Cherry Nightclub (ask for days and hours) for dancing and they have concerts and live music by headline performers. Golf, hiking and sightseeing are a short ride away.
The Spa at Red Rock
Now we’re talking. There’s nothing I enjoy more (ok almost nothing) than a day at the Spa. It is just one of the pleasures in life that everyone should
experience at least once. Not just a massage or facial; the whole Day Spa experience. Work out, sit in the sauna, hot tub or steam room, do the cold plunge, swim a few laps and then get pampered with a well deserved face or body treatment. It’s heaven.
